Bainbridge has made two senior starts this season, both in the Checkatrade Trophy, and has managed to help Sunderland to two clean sheets along the way.

Bainbridge said: “I played the last game at Morecambe and it is great for me that the gaffer has shown a bit of trust in me, so it is good the gaffer picked me again, it is quality playing with the first team.

“I am not that young so I know I need to get my head down and try and get in the first team as soon as possible, I have done, which is good and I need to keep working hard and hopefully I get my chances.”

Ross made eight changes and Bainbridge was conscious of the added pressure to keep the unbeaten run going.

He added: “We are unbeaten again which is great, there was a bit of pressure to go in and keep winning games!

“The lads are a good quality set of lads. The manager and staff too, you can see the club is really on the way forward.

“We train with the first team every Thursday, so we know if we impress we can be involved.

“We have all got a good buzz, we just need to keep working hard and you never know what might happen," he told the club website.

Bainbridge joined on a free from the Liberty Stadium in the summer and joined up with Elliott Dickman’s U23 squad.

He started his career with Everton, signing as a 14-year-old, progressing his way through the youth ranks at U18 and U23 level before making the switch to Wales in August 2017.
