The powerful striker missed Wednesday night's battling defeat to Chelsea with a thigh problem but returned to face the Hornets, skipper John O'Shea stepping down to the bench.

In-form Anichebe's welcome return was one of three changes made by David Moyes.

Moyes was forced into an alteration in midfield after Jan Kirchhoff suffered a knee injury in midweek but the boss was able to recall Didier Ndong, who was suspended against Chelsea.

Billy Jones, who limped off against the Blues was also ruled out, with Donald Love, who replaced him in the second half against the leaders, starting at right-back.
