SCORES of Wearside schools will close tomorrow because of industrial action.

The strike, called by the National Union of Teachers (NUT), is likely to affect thousands of state schools in England and Wales and is part of an ongoing protest over pay and pensions.

Some schools on Wearside will close completely, with others partially disrupted.

However, some will remain open.

Christine Blower, NUT general secretary, said: “Strike action is always a last resort for teachers, and we deeply regret the fact that we have been put in this position. Teacher morale is at an all-time low.
