Papy Djilobodji returns from a one match suspension but Paddy McNair and Lee Cattermole remain long-term absentees, while fellow midfielder Lynden Gooch has been ruled out for up to three months after suffering ankle ligament damage.

Jan Kirchhoff could return to the bench, though, after overcoming a sickness bug from earlier in the week.

Influential midfielder Danny Drinkwater remains suspended for Leicester and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is out with a broken hand.

Ben Chilwell is fit, though, and Nampalys Mendy could feature for the first time since August for Leicester.

Sunderland are bottom heading into the game, three points from safety while Leicester are 14th after struggling to reach the heights of last season.
