Sunderland University hosts conference on adoption

THE University of Sunderland is hosting a national conference listening to the needs of youngsters who are adopted or looked after.

Some of the UK’s leading experts will be attending the one-day conference – The Voices of Children: Listening to Children who are Adopted or Looked After Children –on June 18, at the Sir Tom Cowie Campus, at St Peter’s.

The conference is supported by national and local organisations, including Adoption UK, Who Cares Trust and the British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF).

As well as keynote speakers, workshops and face-to-face discussions with young people who were Looked After, the conference will showcase an exhibition of art, photography and poetry.

Speakers include Hugh Thornberry, chief executive of Adoption UK, Sally Donovan, blogger, writer for Children and Young People as well as Amanda Boorman, founder of The Open Nest, a charity which offers post-adoption support, respite breaks and training.
