Sunderland transfer news: Striker 'target' closes in on loan switch, midfielder unlikely to join Cats

The Black Cats were linked with Swansea striker Gomis in the January window and they have again been credited with an interest in the 30-year-old this summer.

But Marseille have been in talks with Swansea for several weeks over Gomis and reports today claim a loan switch is close to being completed.

Another player on the move is ex-Sunderland midfielder Alfred N'Diaye, who is on the verge of joining La Liga outfit Villarreal in a deal worth in excess of £6.5million.

N'Diaye left Sunderland for Real Betis in a £1m switch two years ago and has become a key figure for them.

But Betis - now under the stewardship of ex-Sunderland boss Gus Poyet who sold N'Diaye when he was at the Stadium of Light - will make a huge profit on the Senegal international.

Meanwhile, Sunderland are unlikely to follow up their approach for French midfielder Clement Grenier.

Lyon claimed over the weekend that Sunderland had made an offer for Grenier - the subject of a failed bid from Newcastle United two years ago.

However, it is not though that Grenier will be moving to Wearside, despite Sam Allardyce's eagerness to boost his midfield options.
