Sunderland thief stole dog summer dress from pet shop, and other crooks in court

Jason Brown, 46, of Euston Court, Carley Hill, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to stealing a dog summer dress valued at £10 from Pets at Home on June 22. He was given a six-month conditional discharge and was told to pay compensation of £10, a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85.

Shaun Freeman, 43, of Vicarage Close, Hetton, pleaded guilty to five counts of benefit fraud, by dishonestly making false statements on five occasions, between 2012 and 2014, to obtain job seekers’ allowance, income support, council tax and housing benefits. He was sentenced to a 12-month community order, with 150 hours’ unpaid work, and a £60 victim surcharge.

Ian Blenkinsop, 40, of Gilhurst Grange, Millfield, pleaded guilty to stealing a £4.99 bottle of wine from B&M Bargains on October 30. He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and was told to pay compensation of £4.99, a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85.

Callum Cairns, 20, of Parkside Crescent, Seaham, admitted driving a Nissan Almera on North Hylton Road while disqualified and having no insurance. He was jailed for eight weeks and was banned from driving for 18 months.

Christopher Shopland, 25, of Exmouth Street, Sunderland, stole £24.22 of food from a BP garage in Surrey on August 14. He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and was told to pay compensation of £24.22, a victim surcharge of £15 and costs of £85.

Carl Everett, 22, of Hawes Court, Sunderland, admitted being drunk and disorderly in Sea Road, on September 12. He was given an absolute discharge with £85 costs.

James Morrison, 41, of Norfolk Street, Sunderland, admitted breaching his bail by failing to surrender to custody, on October 14. He was fined £40 and was told to pay a victim surcharge of £20.
