A TEENAGER called 999 to be rescued from a tree after his mates told him how to climb up – but not down.

The 15-year-old used his mobile phone to ring for help after he became stuck in the tree in the grounds of Hylton Castle at about 7pm yesterday.

It is believed his friends ran off and he could not work out how to get back down himself.

A firefighter from Sunderland North Fire Station went to the top of the short extension ladder tohelp the boy.
