Sunderland supporters among football fans in court over Tyne-Wear derby trouble

The most high-profile case involved John West, 35, of Bradford Crescent, Gilesgate, County Durham, who was charged with entering the playing area.

Newcastle fan West ran onto the pitch at St James’s Park to celebrate with home striker Aleksandar Mitrovic after his equalising goal in the 1-1 draw.

West was fined a total of £349 at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, with a consideration for a football banning order to be heard on May 11.

Meanwhile, Sunderland supporter Jake Cavanagh, 21, of Atlantis Road, Farringdon, was charged with throwing a bottle of water at Newcastle fans during the game.

He pleaded guilty, and was given a £120 fine, as well as a £20 surcharge, and ordered to pay £40 costs.

Daniel Lowe, 23, of Glen Garth, Kelloe, Durham, was given unconditional bail until April 13 over charges of being in possession of a Class A drug and being drunk and disorderly.

Carl Griffin, 25, of Geoffrey Street, Whitburn, pleaded not guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct, and will return for a trial on July 5.

Marc Ferguson, 20, of Spa Well Drive, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, and was given a conditional discharge for six months, as well as being fined £100. Consideration for a football banning order will be heard on May 11.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Lee Harwood, 31, of Cheviot Gardens, Seaham, after he did not attend to face a charge of being drunk in a football ground.

Sunderland supporter Alexander Agnew, 27, of Hawkshead Place, Newton Aycliffe, pleaded guilty to disorderly bahaviour, and was given a conditional discharge for six months, as well as a fine of £100. A consideration for a football banning order will be heard on May 11.

Kevin Dakers, 33, of Victoria Avenue, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly, and was also given a conditional discharge for six months and a fine of £100. A consideration for a football banning order will be heard on May 11.

Andrew Cowell, 34, of Hardwick Street, Peterlee, had been charged with disorderly conduct, and was bailed until July 7.
