Sunderland Sunday League: TWR roar back in style to make County Cup progress in shoot-out drama

They trailed 2-0 to Durham Sunday League outfit Sedgefield St Edmund’s but hit back strongly to level, through Jordan Monson and star man Kev Gordon.

That took the tie to spot kicks and Hylton won 4-2.

SR Dons also won a shoot-out, beating First Division hosts Ryhope Top House 6-5 after a 1-1 draw.

Diamond had the Dons in front with a neat finish, but Josh Winthrop equalised in the second half.

Dons now meet Durham Sunday League outfit Burnside in the next round.

RCA Grangetown Florists slumped to a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Boldon Shack.

Jonathan Winlow nodded the only goal for Florists, whose star man was Michael McVay.

Hendon came up against a very good Ferryhill Celtic side and went down 6-1.

Paul Taylor was in fine form at the back for Hendon, but he couldn’t keep Celtic at bay. Martin Thompson hit Hendon’s consolation.

Premier high-fliers TS Potters ran out comfortable 5-1 winners at First Division title hopefuls Victoria Gardens in the Total Sport Challenge Cup.

Mark Catcheside let his side down after seeing red early in the first half and Potters didn’t look back.

New signing Paul Maw marked his debut with a clinical double and further goals from Forster, Young and Smith sealed the win. Moan replied.

TC Plastics advanced in the Joe Holborn Memorial Cup with an easy 5-1 win over Jolly Potters.

Leighton Stephenson and Josh Farquhar both hit braces before Jamie Giles replied. Alan Tench then finished off the scoring

The Ashbrooke moved off the bottom of the Premier Division, but they blew two points, letting high-flying Southwick claim an unlikely 3-3 draw. Southwick’s stars were on international duty and it was left to Shaun McGregor to roll back the years to bag a double.

Leighton Cooney grabbed a hat-trick for Ashbrooke, but Robinson scored late on to earn Southwick a point.

Farringdon ISL kept in touch with the front-runners thanks to a 3-1 win over basement boys Myers.

Kyran Whitehead, Brett Gillatt and Luke Page hit Farra’s goals, with Graham Stephenson starring. Craig Richardson replied for Myers, with Harry Graham star man.Silksworth Paragon secured a much-needed 2-1 win at neighbours Farringdon Detached.

The game was a tense affair until home sub Willie Crew found the net minutes after coming on. Plucky Paragon rallied well as Shaun Spoors and super sub Lewis Lynn secured victory.

Kieron Gleghorn stood out for Paragon, with Sean Archbold best for Detached.

Ryhope Foresters outgunned O’Brien Waste Recycling 5-0, and it was a poor day at the office for the Wasters, who admitted weren’t good enough.

Foresters took advantage for an easy win. Star man Kieran Davies and Alan Young both netted twice, with Dale Spence also scoring.

Things went from bad to worse for O’Brien, with Liam Wooton getting sent for an early shower.

Debutant Dean Machin opened the scoring to set up unbeaten Victory Club’s 4-1 success at AFC Wearside.

Jason Calvert equalised, but Machin, star man Rob Calvert and Greg Davison guided Victory home to a sixth win in seven. Duncan Stanhope shone for AFC.

Mill View CIU won the battle at the bottom, 4-1 at Lakeside SSC.

Lakeside could only muster a scratch side and Mill took full advantage.

Sean Brook’s double had Mill in control, with Craig Gordon and Stephen Conlin making sure before Michael Cook fired a consolation at the death.

Craig Carney starred for Lakeside.

Washington Colliery beat Cherry Tree 4-3 to extend their lead at the top.

Tree pushed them all the way, with Cameron Arthurs impressing, but their three goals, courtesy of Carl Longstaff (2) and Liam Middlemas, just weren’t enough.

Star man Jordan Stevens notched a double for Colliery, before Ryan Mason and Keith Burnett sealed the win.

Hendon Athletic had to win their game at Pennywell Comrades the hard way.

At 2-2, with the game in the balance, Athletic’s Brett Chapman was sent off, but Hendon shrugged off the setback to run out convincing 5-3 winners.

Corlett and Waters fired the first two for Pennywell before Tommy Scott and Bri Carter levelled. Carte’s trademark free kick into the top corner from 30 yards, and a clinical Scott strike made it 4-2.

Sub Adam Wasey added a fifth before Waters grabbed Pennywell’s late consolation.

The brilliant Brad Timm, John Brannen, Gary Tyzack, Anthony Rogerson and Dan Callaghan all scored to give surprise package Sunderland Railway Club another win, 5-1 at Washington New Tavern.

Jordan Newton was man of the match.

Unbeaten The Stella won 3-1 at Martin Telfer Carpets.

Star man Chris Lawton fired two excellent goals to put Stella in front, but Wayne Henderson scored a beauty to spark Telfer.

Craig Jonas, though, bagged Stella’s clincher.
