Sunderland Sunday League: Stella sunk as Railway Club roar back to blow title race wide open

Gavin Teasdale had the leaders in front, but the Railway had other plans and star man Dan Callaghan and Dean Smith fired past keeper Matt Carswell to bag all three points.

Hendon Athletic nearly avenged their semi-final defeat to Washington Colliery earlier in the season, but their visitors rescued a 3-3 draw as Richie Timm found his own net for a late leveller as Jordan Stevens pressed.

Tommy Scott and Chris Pearson had Hendon two up before Stevens responded. Scott got his second to make it 3-1, but Colliery were awarded a penalty, which Stevens converted.

Late on, the visitors knocked on the door and their pressure paid off to take a point and keep themselves in the hunt for the title.

Mill View CIU recorded a rare and much-needed win which saw them pull away from the drop zone, and above beaten AFC Wearside into fourth-bottom spot.

Joe Lincoln and Steve Conlin notched in each half, with James Gollagly replying. David Raeper starred for Mill, with keeper Grant Newman best for AFC.

Martin Telfer Carpets crashed 6-1 to Cherry Tree to sit second-bottom, three points adrift, with just one game left.

Dan Pearson shone for the Carpetmen and scored a great goal, but the Cherries hit them for six, thanks to Carl Longstaff’s hat-trick, Liam Middlemas’s brace and a Cam Arthurs strike.

Relegated Lakeside SSC left it too little too late to record a much-needed 3-2 win over Washington New Tavern.

Chris Stoker let New Tavern down by seeing red and the Lakeside took advantage.

Star man Mark Barrass (2) and Gavin Whitelock scored to give Lakeside only their third win, while Craig Neal and Martin Harrison replied late to give the visitors a fright.

Shaun Davies was Tavern’s top performer.

New Town produced a great display to defeat much-fancied Victory Club 4-0 on their own patch.

The youthful New Town outfit ran Victory ragged, with Elliott Salicki, David Laidler, Josh Winlow and Andy Laidler scoring.

Jack Scott-Race starred, with keeper Stephen Lordon best for the hosts.

Grange Park took another step towards the Third Division title, beating lowly Millfield Free Gardeners 3-2.

Grange Park are level on points with The Park, who have a superior goal difference but have just one game left, while their rivals have three.

Liam Grimes got things underway with a fine double, while Shaun Fisk popped up with his usual effort. Free Gardeners reduced the deficit as Ryan Giles and Gary Thornton notched, but Grange Park held firm.

Keeper Alex Davies starred for Gardeners, with Gary Harding best for Grange.

Millfield Oddies suffered another heavy defeat as third-top Silksworth Catholic Club ran out 7-1 away winners.

The goals flowed thanks to Brent Brooke, Brogan Smith, Gavin McAnaney, man of the match Dean Smart and a Darren Davie hat-trick.

Rose hit Oddies’ solitary strike.

Park View are seeing their season out in style.

They won 4-1 at TC and now look certain to finish in fourth place.

Reece Benson netted twice, followed by goal from star man Jack Callaghan. Shaun Barras replied for TC, but Jordan Southern hit View’s clincher.
