Sunderland Sunday League: Last-gasp Raeburn seals cup final date for Pennywell Comrades against Washington Arms

Youthful Herrington CW came up short against Comrades, who continued their excellent form with a close-fought 3-2 win.

Alex Whitcombe and Jon Shanks cancelled out efforts from Pennywell’s Carl Waters and Mark Nixon to make it a tense affair, but super sub Aidan Raeburn was on hand to smash a late Pennywell winner.

Keeper Declan Howe shone for Comrades, with Sean Clinton best for Herrington.

Washington Arms pulled an excellent display out of the bag to dump The Park’s classy side out 2-0.

Garry McCartney earned Arms the win with his two efforts, but the Park’s goal machines couldn’t breach the home defence. Cutter stood out for Park, wit Michael Parkin star man for Washington.

RCA Grangetown Florists kept up their title push in the Premier Division with a 2-1 win over defending champions Hylton Castle TWR Group.

Chris Thompson and Andy Place did the damage, while Danni Lay kept Hylton interested with his strike. Jon Winlow starred for Florists, Liam Wooton for Hylton.

The Lansdowne weren’t at the races in a 4-1 loss to TC Plastics, as they had an eye on their cup final date with Southwick.

The Plasticmen took advantage to ran out easy winners, thanks to Mark Curry, Steven Anderson, Kieron Stokoe and Josh Farquhar, whose excellent goal had local hero Tom Smith clapping on the sideline.

Reece Noble struck for Lansdowne, who are a point above second-bottom Farra Paragon ISL, with a game in hand.

Neither side could find the net due to poor finishing as Ryhope Foresters drew 0-0 at SR Dons.

Foresters keeper Chris Sproat was man of the match for keeping Dons’ forward line quiet. Hall pulled the strings for Dons.

On Thursday, RCA outgunned second-top Victoria Gardens 3-0, thanks to Mark Robinson (2) and Scott Kelly, to move a point behind them, with a game in hand, and two in hand on leaders Southwick, who are six points better off.

Ryhope are in the hunt for an automatic promotion spot in Division Three and secured another three points after hammering Kings Arms 6-0 to move up to third place.

Dean Machin, Robbie Middlebrook, Matthew Frost (2), Jordan Sweeney and star man Calum Brown did the damage against the mid-table Kingsmen. Ian Whelan shone for Kings Arms.

Park View found top form again to made light work of Washington New Tavern with a good 4-0 win.

Craig Jackson struck twice, then Park View made certain of the points, going into second spot in the process, with goals from Thomas Jones and Mark Conlin.

Sam Robinson starred, with keeper Richard Corrigan best for Tavern.

The Park remain favourites for second spot in Division Two after a 4-0 midweek win at Victory Club.

They are three points behind Pennywell Comrades, with two games in hand. Comrades won 3-0 at AFC Wearside, when Jake Taylor (2) and Tom Gunter-Heard scored.
