Sunderland Sunday League: Last-gasp Morris breaks Ashbrooke hearts in League Cup semi-final drama

Ashbrooke Sports Club endured heartbreak as they gave Premier high-fliers SR Dons a run for their money before losing out 2-1 in their Hendersons Butchers League Cup semi-final.

John Hope Hindmarsh opened the scoring for Ashbrooke, but Michael Laws equalised.

Ashbrooke looked sure to take the tie to penalties, but Denver Morris had other ideas and he took his chance in the final 30 seconds to clinch Dons’ place in the final.

Keeper Dan Hunter starred for Ashbrooke, with Sean Sweeney best for Dons.

First Division TC Plastics booked their place in the Joe Holborn Memorial Cup final after they beat Premier outfit RCA Grangetown Florists 1-0 away.

Plastics’ Josh Farquhar hammered home the winner, with Daniel Robinson starring.

Robert Hall stood out for disappointed RCA.

Jolly Potters produced a brilliant display to get one over on The Lansdowne in a tight 5-4 win in Division One.

The game was back and forth which saw both side show their impressive attacking prowess.

Paul Webster was back to his best as he ran Lansdowne’s back four ragged to fire a hat-trick for Potters.

The visitors’ goal machine, Luke Taylor, hit a couple of goals to keep them in the game, but Anthony Rivers and Adam McQuillan extended the home lead to 5-2.

Lansdowne found the net twice more, thanks Jack Stanger and Rhys Jukes, but they couldn’t find an equaliser.

It was only a second defeat for Tom Smith’s lads and the title race is now wide open.

The Burton House claimed another easy win, 6-0 at bottom club Willow Pond, to move four points clear in pole position, albeit having played a game more.

Kevin Humble and Martin Hope hit two apiece, then Kieran Moan and Adam Wright finished the scoring. Michael Jepson was Willow’s star man, with Chris Bewick best for Burton.

Redhouse Last Orders secured a convincing 6-2 win against fellow strugglers The Board Inn.

Man of the match Neil McNulty was in impeccable form throughout, bagging a clinical hat-trick.

Billy Robson added a double and Callum Waddle made it six. Daniel Prater and sub Jack Middleton roused Board, with Mitchell Young their star man.

The Royal Marine and Hendon drew 2-2.

Jake McIntyre and Keith Reay found the net for Hendon, with Gary Wilkinson and Luke Cassidy responding. Marc Robson starred for Marine, with Jake Tyrell best for Hendon.

Grange Park took another step to the Third Division title after they beat Millfield Oddies 4-2.

Ryan Rowe, Liam Grimes and a Shaun Fisk double secured three more points. They now sit in second place, three points behind The Park with games in hand.

Gavin Johnston hit both replies, with Mark Fisk Oddies’ top man.

Silksworth Catholic Club are ending their debut season on a high, with another fine performance in a 4-2 win over Westmount.

Anth Brooke, Eddy Wood, man of the match Brogan Smith and Gav McAnaney all notched after Luke Pegman and Iain Summers had given Westmount the early advantage. Ian Whelan starred for the visitors.

The introduction of sub Josh Wilde inspired Ryhope New Railway to a convincing 7-3 win at Wearmouth CW Juniors.

Wilde came off the bench to bag a hat-trick to put the game out of reach. Ben Rowlands, Sam Thompson and two-goal Jordan Sweeney also notched.

Wes Allen, Marc Green and Mark Dickinson netted for Wearmouth.

Millfield Free Gardeners came out on top as the bottom two locked horns.

The Dolphin opened the scoring thanks to a Davis strike, but the Gardeners rallied and won it 2-1, thanks to efforts from Luke Currie and star man Bradley Mitchell. Callum Robinson shone for Dolphin.

Penshaw CC scored first and last in a 2-2 draw against Wear United.

Liam Jordan’s lucky effort had Penshaw in front, but Sam Wade equalised from the spot after Walls was held in the box.

Steve Barnes put United 2-1 up after latching onto a great through ball, but Penshaw levelled when Patrick Cooke scored with a bullet header.

Liam Binks starred for Penshaw, Matthew Colborn for United.

An excellent Shaun Barras display was not enough for TC to take anything from their visit to Park View.

He hit a glorious hat-trick, but Park View are on a great run and continued that, edging home 4-3.
