Sunderland Sunday League: Kings Arms proud to land Jay McLaren Memorial Trophy in final thriller
They have been motivated to get their hands on the trophy – the Third Division Subsidiary Cup – to keep the memory alive of their former captain marvel and they ensured the win after despatching Lakeside 4-2.
The Kingsmen raced into a 3-0 half-time lead courtesy of a double from Shaun Barras and a Stephen Dixon strike.

Hide AdLakeside had a good go in the second half and replied with goals from Iain Usher and Mark Barras, but another Dixon strike sealed Kings Arms’ success to end their emotional season with a trophy.
Michael Mather was outstanding for Kings Arms, with keeper John Wilson starring for Lakeside.
Southwick are on the brink of clinching the Premier Division title.
They are five points clear of Victoria Gardens, who they meet in their final league match of the season tomorrow.

Southwick’s winning streak continued with an easy 7-3 win over TC Plastics.
Southwick had a host of scorers, with doubles from Lee Smith and man of the match Paul Kane, with Reece Thompson, John Butler and Michael Coghlan adding to the tally.
The Plasticmen didn’t have enough in the tank and could only muster goals from Daniel Robinson, Alan Tench and Josh Farquhar.
Kieron Stokoe shone for TC Plastics.

Hide AdVictoria Gardens are doing what they need to do, continuing to put the points on the board.
They beat Hylton Castle TWR Group 3-0, as Liam McBryde scored twice and Richie Jordan followed that up with a clinical effort.
Nath Burrell shone for Hylton, with Chris Bewick outstanding for the visitors.
Ryhope Foresters halted RCA Grangetown Florists’ bid to finish as runners-up when they recorded a narrow 2-1 derby triumph.

On Thursday, Southwick edged closer to the title thanks to a 2-1 win over RCA Grangetown Florists, who had Jon Winlow on target. Dan Thompson was the visitors’ top performer.
Two nights earlier, Florists ran out 5-1 victors against The Lansdowne.
Andy Place led the way with a double, while star man Simon Hepinstall, Robert Hall and John Turvey also struck.
