Sunderland striker to link up with Sam Allardyce at Soccer Aid 2016

Jermain Defoe is to link up with Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce for the Soccer Aid 2016 charity match.

The club’s top scorer during the 2015-16 season will represent the Three Lions - coached by Allardyce and Jose Mourinho - when they take on the Rest of the World at Old Trafford on Sunday, June 6.

Defoe joins a star-studded England squad including the likes of Damian Lewis, Louis Tomlinson and Olly Murs, with former players including Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher, Sol Campbell and Phil Neville also set to feature.

Claudio Ranieri’s Rest of the World also boasts world-class talent including Jaap Stam, Edgar Davids, Samuel Eto’o and Fabio Cannavaro.

Brazil legends Dida, Cafu and Ronaldinho are also in the squad alongside Sir AP McCoy and Gordon Ramsey.

Soccer Aid is now in its 10th year and brings together stars from sport, music, television and film in the world’s biggest charity football match to raise money and provide support for Unicef.
