Sunderland streets hit by spate of car vandalism

FOUR cars have been damaged in the Long Streets area of Hendon, Sunderland.

Most of the vandalism took place in Hastings Street over the last five weeks.

The incidents included smashing headlights, slashing tyres and stealing a handbag from one of the cars.

Residents were told about the crimes at a meeting with neighbourhood police At Hendon Community Library earlier this month.

They were also told that a man was arrested after allegedly shoplifting in Villette Road and that burglars stole a televsision from a house in Canon Cockin Street.

Police found five cannabis plants at a house in Cairo Street, where a window of another home was also smashed.

Also reported at the meeting was the theft of a bicycle from a back yard in Canon Cockin Street.

People living in Long Streets can meet their neighbourhood officers to discuss any issues at Hendon Library, in Vilette Road on Monday, October 6, from 6.30pm.
