CRUEL thieves made off with a little girl’s pet rabbit in the same week she broke her leg.
Five-year-old Millie Laws’ bunny, Trevor, was taken from her mum’s Southwick Road home while the family were on holiday in Skegness.
Dad, Ian Laws, 41, said: “A friend was house-sitting during our holiday and woke one morning to discover the rabbit and hutch were both gone.
“It was the first day of our holiday, but we only told Millie when we were on our way home because we didn’t want to spoil her week.
“She was so sad. To make matters worse, we’d only been home a few hours when she fell off her scooter and broke her leg.
“What a terrible day.””
The hutch was in the back yard and, although the garden is protected by metal gates, thieves still managed to get in and make off with Trevor.
Ian said: “There was a lock on the gate. We don’t know if the lock’s been forced. I would be very surprised if someone doesn’t know something in the area.
“We’ve only had the rabbit a couple of weeks. It’s tiny.”
Trevor is white with black markings on his ears, eyes and back.
“It’s really upsetting for Millie,” said Ian. “Kids are resilient, but she’s cried at bedtime and just wants him back.
“She loved the little thing.”
Now Ian is hoping someone will come forward with information to help track Trevor down and return him to Millie.
“I hope somone’s conscience is pricked and they come forward,” added Ian.
