Sunderland schoolboy knocked off scooter in collision with police car

A YOUNG boy is in hospital after being knocked from his scooter in a collision with a police car.

The eight-year-old suffered a suspected broken leg after the incident in Vicarage Lane, Silksworth, at about 6.30pm tonight.

His injuries are not believed life-threatening. Enquiries are being carried out to establish the circumstances of the collision.

The road was closed from Warwick Terrace and Lincoln Avenue and at the roundabout with Silksworth Lane along to Blind Lane to North Street. There were no traffic problems.

The driver of the police car was not injured.

Chief Superintendent Chris Thomson said: “A full investigation will be carried out to establish the circumstances of the collision and extra officers will be in the area to inform residents about the incident and offer them reassurance and answer any concerns they may have”

In these circumstances the matter will in accordance with procedure be referred to the IPCC.
