The school children joined forces with city law firm Sweeney Miller who challenged them to design a poster to spread the road safety message.

Members of the Sweeney Miller team gave pupils from the school in Meadowside a talk on road safety before inviting them to get creative.

The talk was given during Road Safety Week, before Lindsey Christie, from Sweeney Miller, called back in to the school to judge the pupil’s efforts.

The winning poster was designed by Emelia Fishburn-Parkin of year 6 who came up with her own slogans Arrive Alive and Stay Safe.

Emelia won an Acer tablet donated by the law firm, while all the pupils who took part received goodie bags.

Second prize was won by year 2 pupil Finn Cole and third prize went to Alexander Campbell from the reception year.

This is the second year Sweeney Miller, which has offices in Ashbrooke, has run the event in the school.

Lindsey said: “Once again we were bowled over by the high standard of work and the amount of effort that had gone in to each one.

“All the team at Sweeney Miller got in involved in the judging which took over a week from start to finish. Eventually we had to narrow it down to one winner which stood out from the pack.

“The whole school were fantastic and enthusiastically threw themselves into the challenge.”

St Mary’s School already runs a number of campaigns to promote road safety and recently did a Giant Walk to school in aid of the Brake charity.
