CELEBRITY chef Stacie Stewart was on hand to decide who was the top dog in a contest held on Wearside.

The final of the North East Dog Competition took place at Roker beach at the weekend. Six dogs battled for the top prizes, all donated by local businesses.

Roker TV star Stacie, Andrea Parkin from Sunderland charity Animal Krackers, and Debbie Simpson from Sunderland BIC were the judges. They crowned Bailey from Boxer Dog Rescue Northern England (BDNE) as the winner.

Bailey’s owner, Lesley Smith, walked away with £200 of prizes including a pet photography session, personalised dog collar and a hamper of goodies.

Stacie said “I was absolutely thrilled to be a judge. All the dogs were wonderful and Bailey was a worthy winner.”

The competition was organised by North East HUB – an online organisation to support and promote the North East set up by Donna Petch, 31, of Roker, over a year ago. The business has worked with hundreds of local businesses and events and is going from strength to strength.

Donna said: “I am so pleased with how The North East HUB is growing and people are gaining more awareness of the support and services I can offer local businesses and events.

“The final was fantastic, I absolutely loved meeting all the dogs, the judges had a very tough decision to make. I will definitely be running another next year.”
