PENSHAW Hill was the setting for a day of bug-hunting, den-building and treasure hunts.
The event was part of the National Trust’s 50 Things To Do Before You’re 11 and Three Quarters, which aims to get kids doing activities outdoors.
Chris Wood, from the National Trust, The North York Moors and Durham, said the day was a great success.
“It went really well,” said the 25-year-old.
“I was a bit concerned the weather would put people off, but we had a great turnout.”
The children also took part in a Plant it, Eat it, Grow it activity, to encourage youngsters into growing their own food and learning where it comes from.
Chris said: “The four activities we had today are all on the list of 50 Things To Do, so there’s four that the kids can cross off today.
“The kids all seemed to really enjoy it. There were a lot of smiling faces which makes it all worth it.”
