Sunderland removal van burnt out in suspected arson attack

An inquiry is under way after a removal van parked up off a busy Sunderland road was wrecked in a suspected arson attack.

The vehicle was left on land on the corner of Hylton Road and St Luke's Road, Pennywell, when it was spotted on fire.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At around 2.02pm on Tuesday police received a report of a vehicle fire on Hylton Road, Sunderland.

“Emergency services attended the scene and found a Ford transit van ablaze.

"The fire was extinguished and nobody was injured.

“Inquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, which police are treating as suspected arson."

No one was available for comment from Premier Removals, whose details were painted on the side of the vehicle.
