Sunderland rape suspect is bailed

A MAN arrested on suspicion of rape has been released on police bail.

Officers are investigating after a woman was allegedly raped in a car park between Stockton Road and Tunstall Terrace in Sunderland city centre.

The 21-year-old woman said she was attacked on Friday, between 2.45am and 3.30am, when she was approached by a man.

Detective Sergeant Kimberely Flynn, of Northumbria Police’s Rape Investigation Team, urged anyone with any information to contact officers.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and has since been bailed.
