Sunderland plans three-day tribute to armed forces
For the sixth year, the city will be holding its own programme of events to mark Armed Forces Weekend, and a rallying call has gone out for people to get involved.
Activities will be based around the recreation ground at Seaburn from June 24 to June 26. The man behind it all is Paul Jasper, who served himself for 23 years with the Light Infantry.

Nationally, Armed Forces Day is a chance for people to show their support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community.
Locally, a full weekend of highlights will include an opening ceremony with a singalong and reunion of veterans on the opening night, on Friday, June 24.
It starts at 6pm and promises five hours of highlights.
Over the rest of the weekend, there will be a military march on the Saturday; a football competition, a dog show; beer tent; wall climbing; laser attraction; and numerous bands.
