Sunderland nursery rated outstanding for second time

Youngsters and staff at a Sunderland nursery school are celebrating success.

The Busy Bees Ryhope nursery has been rated as outstanding for the second time.

Inspectors heaped praise on the nursery saying it provided ‘exceptional opportunities’ for youngsters.

And, the team at the Waterworks Road nursery couldn’t be happier.

Jenna Baxter, deputy manager at the nursery, said they are all thrilled with the outcome of the latest visit from the Ofsted inspectors.

She said: “We are delighted, really, really pleased. This is the second time we have got outstanding, so its amazing.

“It has been very hard work, but we did it and we are really proud of the staff, who have worked so hard.”

Jenna said despite the fantastic achievement there is never any room to be complacent.

She said: “Even though we have got outstanding, we are always thinking about what we can do next to provide the best for the children.”

Following the visit to the nursery, Ofsted inspectors rated it as outstanding in all areas.

They got the top marks for leadership and management, quality of teaching, outcomes for children and personal development.

In their report, the inspectors said: “Children make outstanding progress in their learning.

“Staff provide children with mexceptional opportunities to develop their own individual learning styles within a framework of support and encouragement.

“Children are excited to arrive at the nursery. Their behaviour is exemplary. They show a maturity beyond their years as they work together to resolve problems and discuss how to stay safe.”

The watchdogs said children have strong relationships with their key workers and are encouraged to be independent and develop resilience and confidence in preparation for


They added: “The inspirational management team ensures its high expectations are known and adhered to by the staff. The managers continually evaluate, make changes and drive improvement to benefit the children.

“Staff are highly vigilant to potential hazards and respond extremely promptly to promote children’s good health and safety at all times.”

Inspectors said good arrangements are in place to ensure parents play a full and active role in their children’s learning, with staff and parents sharing information extremely well about the progress children make in the nursery and at home.

The report said: “Parents comment that staff provide ‘exceptional care and education’ and ‘go the extra mile for all children’.”
