Pickford produced another great performance in defeat at the weekend as Sunderland went down to a 3-0 defeat at Swansea.

Manchester United and Spurs have both previously been linked with the young goalkeeper – and you can now seemingly add Liverpool to that list.

Chris Kirkland, who worked with Pickford at Preston, said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if he is not there come January.

“I told Liverpool to sign him last summer. He will have all of the top clubs looking at him - not just in England, but in Europe as well.

“He definitely won’t be there next summer.”

Moyes will be desperate to keep hold of Pickford in the transfer window, with reinforcements more on his mind.

To that end, Sunderland were today linked with £10million-rated Anderlecht midfielder Nicolae Stanciu.

The Romanian has impressed this season after his summer move from Steaua Bucharest, scoring five goals.

The 23-year-old was apparently close to joining Southampton in the summer, and the playmaker could be someone who interest Moyes, although Sunderland will have a limited budget to work with in January.

Moyes, meanwhile, has told the Echo he already has an idea of how many points the club will need to stay up.
