A MUM’S lucky number came up when she was hailed for being the best.
Karen Tempest has been announced as Mum of the Year in a national competition run by a bingo site after she was entered by her daughter.
She would never ever let anyone down especially when it comes to her grandchildren who love her dearly.Gemma Campbell
The 47-year-old, from Pennywell, was nominated by Gemma, from South Hylton, for being: “100 per cent selfless in everything she does.”
Gemma, who works as a product developer for baby care firm Nuby UK in Boldon Business Park, married Owen, 27, a software developer for SaleCycle in Rainton Bridge, in October.
The 28-year-old is mum to Evie, three, and Oliver, one.
Gemma told competition bosses: “She’s a single mam to three and has very little money for herself, yet paid for my wedding dress and all accessories for it.
“She has never once asked for anything in return and it would be a dream to win this for her just so I can give something back to show just a token of my appreciation.
“She is even coming on holiday with us in May to help look after our two young children as it’s our first family holiday and we don’t know what to expect, so she’s offered to help us out.
“She has a medical condition, underactive thyroid, which causes severe tiredness but despite how tired she is, she would never ever let anyone down especially when it comes to her grandchildren who love her dearly.”
She added: “I thought it was a heart warming story.
“I’m over the moon she won.”
Gemma kept the entry a secret until her prize of £3,000 holiday vouchers, plus Debenhams vouchers, was announced.
Karen, who is also mum to Anthony, 23, and Dominique, 14, also works at Nuby as a warehouse manager, said: “When I was told I just cried.
“Gemma is just wonderful, all my children are, but it was a total shock.”
Karen plans to spend her vouchers on taking her family away.
The Mother’s Day competition was run by Foxy Bingo, with Gemma entering Karen after spotting an advert.
