POSTIES in Sunderland were wished well by the Mayor of Sunderland ahead of their busiest time of year.

Coun Bob Heron visited Royal Mail’s Sunderland delivery office to pass on Christmas wishes and encouragement to postmen and women.

He was shown around the office by manager Kevin Carrahar and was introduced to the staff who are working hard sorting and delivering all cards and parcels in Sunderland in the run-up to Christmas.

Coun Heron said: “It was great to meet the dedicated, hard-working Royal Mail postmen and women at Sunderland delivery office and to see first-hand just how much effort they put into delivering for people at this time of year.”

“I’d like to thank them for their efforts and wish them all the best over the busy festive period.”

Mr Carrahar said: “Our people pull out all the stops throughout the year to ensure mail is delivered quickly, but even more so over the busy festive period. We are grateful that Coun Heron came along to see the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.

“We know that many people don’t want to wait for re-delivery so we are extending our opening hours at a number of our offices to make it easier for customers who want to pick up their parcels in person.” The recommended last posting dates for mail are today for second class, Friday for first class and Monday for special delivery items.
