Sunderland man who robbed woman in cashpoint mugging is jailed

Lee Stephenson, 34, of Carley Road in Sunderland, was convicted of robbery at Newcastle Crown Court and been sentenced to seven years.

Stephenson was arrested by Sunderland North Neighbourhood Policing Team back in April after he robbed the victim in the Oaklands Crescent area of Marley Pots.

The woman, who had just been to the cashpoint to get some money, was walking along the back lane of the street when Stephenson grabbed her by the neck and dragged her to the ground in a violent attack.

He then took money from her pocket.

The woman was injured as a result of the robbery and was left badly shaken by it.

Sunderland North Neighbourhood Inspector Don Wade said: “Stephenson is clearly a violent individual and I’m pleased he is behind bars.”
