Sunderland man '˜offered to show police his privates' while drunk and disorderly

Two police officers had been driving along Southwick Road on the evening of April 10, looking a for a vulnerable woman, Sunderland magistrates heard.

Instead they came across John Davison, 31, and another man who were leaning over a fence.

Prosecutor Justin Gibson said the officers’ attention was drawn to Davison, who stood directly facing the police car and raised his middle finger.

Davison asked if the officers would like to see his private parts and pulled his trousers down.

Mr Gibson said Davison then went to lower his underwear as the officers shouted at him to stop.

One of the officers said in a statement: “His friend was pointing his phone towards me. I had my CS spray in my hand. I asked him why he had threatened to show me his privates.”

Mr Gibson said Davison tried to head-butt the officer. When he missed he offered his hands to be handcuffed.

Davison of Thorndale Road, Thorney Close, admitted being drunk and disorderly in a public place. The court heard he already has 29 convictions for 47 separate offences.

He was fined £80 and was told to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Bench chairman John Price told him: “You were very much a nuisance in all of this, and, as your solicitor said, the police have better things to do than listening to people screaming and shouting at them like that in a most unsavoury manner, despite how much you’ve had to drink.”
