Vicky, 34, started following Steve on Twitter after watching his early appearances on the show and the two began chatting.

Steve has now moved to Manchester, where the pair married in August, to start their life together.

He said: “It made it extra special having the TV cameras there to capture our day. It meant people who couldn’t attend can see it for themselves. It’s fantastic being married. Five months later and we still feel like it’s our honeymoon.”

Steve, 33, touched the hearts of viewers when he appeared in the second series of the Channel 4 show searching for his soulmate.

The former Southmoor School pupil, who has Crouzon syndrome, which causes his skull to grow up instead of out, spoke of how he had to deal with the death of his brother Paul, 32, who had the same condition, when he first appeared on the show.

The heartache came a decade after he and parents Ian and Susan lost Steve’s siblings Mark and Amanda, who died within a year of each other.

Steve said: “I’ve been blown away by the support I’ve had from the people of Sunderland, I never expected it. I still get overwhelmed by it all. When I first went on the show, it was a hard decision to make, opening up to the British public.”

He added: “My first relationship after the show didn’t work out. Then Vicky started following me on Twitter. It took a while for it to develop into a relationship as we’ve both been hurt in the past. But we got together two years ago. It’s great for people who saw me on the show to see how happy we are now.”

lThe Undateables is on Channel 4 tonight at 9pm.
