An investigation has been launched after a Wearside man died during a police search of his house.
At around 7.30pm yesterday police executed a search warrant at an address on High Street, in Easington Lane.
During the search of the property a 43-year-old man, who lived at the address, became unwell.
Paramedics were called to the address to treat the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said inquiries are ongoing into the incident and due to the contact between officers and the man the matter will be referred to the IPCC, as is procedure in the circumstances.
A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “I didn’t hear any sirens last night or notice any police activity. He seemed fine yesterday, I saw him going into the house.”
