BLACK Cats fans have a chance to grill one of the greats when Kevin Phillips takes part in a talk-in next month.
Phillips will appear at a South Shields FC function at The Mile bar, in Brigham Place, South Shields, on Thursday, December 4.
It will be a chance for football fans to hear from – and talk to – one of the most natural goalscorers the Premier League has ever seen, while there will also be an auction of football memorabilia.
Phillips established himself as a modern great at Sunderland, scoring 130 goals for the club between 1997 and 2003.
He helped the Black Cats to promotion in the 1998-99 season, and the following year won the Premier League Golden Boot with 30 goals.
That also earned him the European Golden Shoe award as the continent’s top goalscorer, and he remains the only Englishman to ever win that accolade.
Phillips – who won eight full England caps – only ended his playing days earlier this year at the age of 40 after helping Leicester City to promotion to the Premier League.
He remains at the club as their first-team coach, while he can regularly be seen on TV as one of the sport’s emerging pundits.
As well as the talk-in, there will be the chance for fans to have a photo taken with Phillips, while there will be a raffle, an auction and a pie and pea supper.
South Shields FC commercial assistant Bob Wray said: “Kevin is an absolute icon with Sunderland supporters, and also gained respect from fans of most clubs during his career.
“It is a real pleasure for South Shields Football Club to be able to promote this evening.”
