Jordan Pickford is "really excited" to be part of the England squad and "can't wait" to get his senior career going.
The Sunderland goalkeeper was last night called into the England squad for tomorrow's World Cup qualifier in Slovenia after Burnley's Tom Heaton withdrew due to a "minor" injury.
Pickford tweeted: "Honoured to be called up to the @England senior team for the first time! Really excited for the journey ahead, can't wait to get started."
The 22-year-old has been in outstanding form for the Black Cats in the Premier League this season making a string of brilliant saves.
Pickford is a player well known to England interim boss Gareth Southgate, who has awarded the Washington-born keeper nine Under-21 caps.
But this is his first entrance into the senior squad and will hope, given his form to date in the top flight and for England in the Under 21 qualifiers, that it will be the first of many call-ups.
