Awards are given to restaurants and cafes which receive consistently good reviews from customers and takes into account opinions submitted by travellers on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period.
Olive Affaire owner Jean Oliver spent years living in the Greek city of Piraeus, where she developed her love of Greek food.
The businesswoman, whose son Nick runs the kitchen, then realised her dream of opening her own cafe bistro and bringing a taste of Greece back to Sunderland.
She said: “Winning the Certificate of Excellence is a real source of pride for the entire team at Olive Affaire and we’d like to thank all of our customers who took the time to complete a review on TripAdvisor.
“There is no greater seal of approval than being recognised by our customers. The award is a huge vote of confidence for our business and for our continued commitment to excellence.”
As well as serving up Greek food, the venue specialises in Greek weddings and hosts regular Greek party nights.
It’s run as a bistro and cafe during the day and a restaurant in the evening.
