WEARSIDERS are getting ready to put up the bunting as the Queen’s Jubilee gets closer.

St Vincent Street, in Hendon, is the latest city street to get in the party spirit as it gears up to celebrate the Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee in style.

On Sunday, June 3, the street will be alive with the sound of music as residents put on a party to mark the special occasion.

Organiser Anthony Devlin said: “We’ve put a lot of effort into the event and we’ve got the whole community involved.

“A lot of businesses have donated goods and it’s really nice to see them all helping.

“It’s going to be a real community event.”

Between 2pm and 6pm, residents living in the street are invited to join in with the fun as the tables are dusted down, food and drinks provided and fun games put on for the family.

Wearside multicultural organisation Unity is also holding a party.

On June 4, the event will be held at the Stadium of Light, from 1pm to 4pm.

There will be performances from dance groups, and raffles and shows.
