A FUN run with a difference has been launched.
The Sunderland in 2012 Big Mini Fun Run will give youngsters the chance to hop, skip and run their way around the Stadium of Light.
The event, which takes place on May 5, is a one-mile route around SAFC’s ground.
Kids from Usworth Colliery Primary School joined Sunderland City Council Leader Councillor Paul Watson and Cabinet Secretary Councillor Mel Speding to launch the event.
All the children who take part will receive a Sunderland in 2012 medal and are encouraged to run in fancy dress.
Coun Watson said: “I’m delighted that the children could join us today to help launch the Big Mini Fun Run.
“The Fun Run is just the latest activity in a whole range of sporting and cultural events and opportunities taking place across the city for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy.
“We have the Marathon of the North and the Sunderland City 10k and Junior Runs taking place this year which cater more for older children and adults.
“This event is a fantastic way for young children and their parents to join in and get together to enjoy some great bonding time in a healthy and, most importantly, fun way.”
Children aged three to seven have to be accompanied by an adult but over-eights are free to run by themselves.
Coun Mel Speding said: “This event will be a great family day out at a minimal cost, with lots going on in the afternoon.
“I’m sure everyone who takes part will really enjoy it.”
