POLICE are appealing for information after thieves snatched a collection of prized Sunderland AFC shirts during a city centre raid.

Raiders grabbed four framed red and white SAFC shirts and a black Sunderland shirt during the break-in at a premises in Athenaeum Street.

The shirts – along with a number of shirts from other clubs – were collectors’ items as they had been signed by a number of players.

Police are asking any witnesses to the break-in, which took place between December 23 and December 28, to come forward.

Anyone with any information, or who has been offered a signed football shirt, should contact police on 03456 043 043 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
