Djilobodji joined Chelsea for £2.7million last summer, but made just one substitute's appearance in the League Cup for them before joining Werder Bremen on loan in January.

However, the 27-year-old - who was linked with Sunderland 12 months ago - found his feet at Bremen and played a key role in them remaining in the Bundesliga.

Djilobodji has penned a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light, with the Black Cats taking the unusual step of disclosing the price tag on the former Nantes defender.
