LETTERS from Manchester City fans praising Sunderland’s supporters passion and pride at the cup final have been met with a massive reaction on Wearside.

More than 40,000 people visited to read letters to the Echo from Manchester City fans praising Sunderland’s “wonderful” supporters.

The good news story was even tweeted by the Capital One Cup social media team.

Adam Kowalczuk, who was at Wembley to cheer on the Blues, wrote: “To come out of the ground after the celebrations and to be applauded by your fans was absolutely fantastic.

“It shows the true measure of the people who support your club and I have nothing but sheer admiration for them now.

Susan Lowe wrote: “I would like to let your wonderful supporters know how much it meant to us and tell everybody at the club what great supporters you have.”

Now Sunderland fans have responded in kind in a mutual show of admiration and respect for Manchester City supporters after the Capital One Cup.

Lynsey Louise King said on the Echo’s Facebook page: “The Man City fans were fantastic as well. Giving me hugs and shaking my hand.

“Wishing you all the best. Spoke to a good couple of dozen and they were absolutely fabulous.

David Wilson posted: “Man City fans made the occasion also, we’re witty and friendly. Made the day unforgettable.”

Julie Wilson said: “This is the type of thing I love to see in relation to football.

“I hate football for so many reasons, but seeing this makes me feel just a little warmer to it.

“Well done all you guys. It’s the fans that keep football alive, after all.”

@UKBritney_Jean tweeted us saying: “Lovely gesture by @MCFC fans! I was at Wembley and every City fan I met before and after the match were great, had a laugh.”

Helen Jackson tweeted: “Feeling very proud to be a Mackem! Proud of the team and proud of the fans! #SAFC”

Writing on, The Prophet said: “Neither City or the Black Cats have any pretentions about who they are or where they came from.

“We remember life before the Sheikh’s adoption and are grateful for every pound he’s invested.”

Darrenh14 said: “I am a Man City fan. I went to the game with my wife and two lads (27 and 14).

“We met Sunderland fans on the tube, around the stadium and in pubs before and after the game. We had a fantastic day not only because our team won.

“The Sunderland fans were absolutely great, really friendly and genuine. There was no hostility in the atmosphere at all.

“I hope that you get to Wembley again in the FA Cup (as long as you don’t beat us)and I will be rooting for you in all your remaining Premier League games except one.

“Congratulations and thanks for making it a day to remember.”
