Sunderland Empire to stage smash hit show Billy Elliot

Smash-hit show Billy Elliot the Musical is heading to Wearside for a limited time only.

The Sunderland Empire will host the performances which will run from April 6 to April 30.

Ben Phillips, General Manager, Sunderland Empire said: “We are extremely excited to announce that the Sunderland Empire has been chosen as the North East theatre to host the smash-hit Billy Elliot the Musical as part of its first ever UK and Ireland tour.

“With such strong local and regional connections there is no doubt that this inspiring and moving production will strike a chord with audiences across the region. Billy Elliot the Musical has been captivating audiences in the West End and we can’t wait to bring this show home to the West End of the North East.”

The show is based on the successful film set in the northern mining town during the miner’s strike. It follows the story of Billy’s journey from boxing to ballet class.

Producer, Eric Fellner said: “Having recently celebrated ten extraordinary years of Billy Elliot the Musical in London, we are delighted to have the opportunity to bring a new touring production of this inspiring show to fans across the UK and Ireland and the chance to delight new audiences along the way.”

Tickets for the show at the Sunderland Empire are on sale from Friday October 9 at 10am.
