Their loving family were today holding a susprise party for them at a mystery location.

Stan, 82, and Hetty, 79, who live in Hill View Estate, Grangetown, met on the evening of a wedding and fell in love immediately.

As well as their own wedding 60 years ago today, Stan’s brother Bob married Lilly on the same day, also at the same church.

Sadly, Bob died in 1980.

Stan and Hetty went on to have daughters Doreen, 58, Pauline, 53, Pamela, 51, Debra, who would now be 48 but died aged 40, and Andrea, 40.

Doreen told the Echo: “They’re a lovely couple of the fact that they’ve been together so long is amazing.”

Stan worked at Lipton’s Grocery Store and glass manufacturer Pyrex before retirement.

Hetty was working at the Ritz Cinema when she first met Stan before moving to Jackson’s the Tailors.

The pair now enjoy the quiet life following retirement from work as well as spending time with their large family.

“My dad used to enjoy walking and swimming quite a lot but he’s not able to as much now,” added Doreen.

“We’re having a celebration with immediate family for them today but we haven’t told them where it is so it’s a bit of a surprise to add to the day.

“Hopefully they’ll enjoy it.”
