The player is on Wearside for a medical after Sunderland agreed a fee for the 25-year-old.

Jack Ross revealed earlier today that Sunderland were still hopeful of signing Wyke, telling the Echo: We want to get him, I think that’s well-documented, and the club has been very patient in its pursuit although that will have to come to an end one way or another soon – hopefully in our favour.”

It now appears that Sunderland have got their man, though the striker won't be available for Saturday's League One opener against Charlton Athletic as he recovers from a knee injury picked up in pre-season.

Wyke scored 15 goals for the League One side last season. The fee is believed to be around £1million.
