A SUNDERLAND church is hosting a series of events to celebrate the end of their centenary year.

St Oswald’s Church, in Shiney Row, will hold an Advent fair on Saturday, November 23, at 11am.

There will be several stalls and a musical performance by The Stockton to Darlington Ukelele Express.

On the following day, they will welcome the Bishop of Jarrow, the Right Reverend Mark Bryant, for eucharist at 10.30am. A lunch will then be held in the church hall.

That evening, Archdeacon Reverend Stuart Bain will return to St Oswald’s, where he was the vicar between 1986-92, and he will be the guest for a festival of evensong. Light refreshments will be served.

The celebration ends on Saturday, December 7, with an organ recital by Dr Ian Brunt at 7.30pm, to recognise 100 years of music in the church.

The recital will feature Christmas music and a tribute to Dr Conrad William Eden, former organist at Durham Cathedral.
