Sunderland care home salon gets a new look

The ladies of Barnes Court care home in High Barnes celebrated the grand re-opening of the salon with a glass of bubbly and cake.

They also treated themselves to some pampering in the purpose-built hairdressing salon.

The facility has been dubbed ‘Barnettes’ after residents and staff voted on the new name,

Among the salon’s features are raised salon backwash sinks at various heights for a more comfortable and dignified shampoo service for residents in wheelchairs or with physical limitations, and framed beauty shots of residents modelling their hairdos from the salon.

Joanne Steele, Home Manager at Barnes Court, said: “We are delighted with how our hair salon has turned out.

“We have had a very positive response from residents and visitors, and there was a lot of excitement surrounding the opening party.”

Barnes Court provides nursing, residential and dementia care for the elderly, and specialist supported care for young adults with physical disabilities. It is part of the Countrywide Care Group.

Regional Director Stephen Young said: “We always strive to offer the very best in quality standards, both in terms of the care that we deliver and also in the living environment for our residents.

“We hope that the investment that we have made into the refurbishment at Barnes Court have made the surroundings even more welcoming and comfortable for residents.”
