Swimming star Rebecca Adlington is on her way to Wearside.

The double Olympic gold medal winner will visit the Sunderland Aquatic and Wellness Centre, and Raich Carter Sports Centre for an “Oceans of Fun” swimming event on November 8.

Hosted by 2004 Olympic bronze medallist and BBC sports commentator, Steve Parry, it will invite local children to take part in a range of free swimming activities at both sites,

Rebecca and Steve will also be joined by fellow swimming athletes James Goddard, Craig Figes, Fiona McCann, Yvette Baker and Vicki Lucass, who will lead the sessions, giving children an opportunity to try out different types of swimming, such as water polo, fast swimming and synchronised swimming. Participants will also be given the opportunity to race the athletes at the end of the sessions.

The sessions will take place at Raich Carter Sports Centre between 10am and 1pm, and at Sunderland Aquatic and Wellness Centre between 2pm and 5pm. Parents are advised to book children onto the free sessions by calling the centres ahead of the event.
