Awards success is brewing for a quirky tea shop.
Serendipity Tea and Trinkets, in Frederick Street, Sunderland city centre, has been nominated for Cafe of the Year in the Northern Independent Retail Awards.
As well as its main business as a tea and coffee shop, Serendipity was shortlisted for hosting regular events, activities and craft classes.
Owner June Clark said: “It’s such a privilege to be nominated for this award as there are so many outstanding businesses in this category. We are delighted to have been highlighted.
“We have worked incredibly hard, made lots of sacrifices and changed and adapted to get our business where it is today, to receive this award would just be the icing on the cake.”
The Northern Independent Retail Awards are aimed at celebrating, showcasing and rewarding the independent businesses who offer unique products and services across the north.
Winners will be announced at a black tie event in Manchester in September.
There’s a range of categories including Café of the Year, Convenience Store of the Year, Hair and Beauty Retailer of the Year and Service Provider of the Year.
As well as recognising commercial success and achievements of independent retail businesses in the North, the awards will be raising money for the Make a Wish Foundation.
