TWO brothers were due to appear at crown court today charged with the murder of dad-of-two George Dagg.

Jack Ryan, 21, and Jess Ryan, 24, both formerly of Toronto Road in Thorney Close, have been charged with murder and their case was brought before Sunderland Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

District Judge Roger Elsey referred the case to Newcastle Crown Court where the pair will appear today.

Friends and family of Mr Dagg were due to gather today to say goodbye to the 53-year-old at his funeral at Immaculate Heart of Mary RC Church in Springwell Road.

Mr Dagg died after suffering a stab wound to his leg after an incident in Purley Road, Plains Farm, on June 2.

The dad and uncle, who lived in the street, was taken to hospital where he subsequently died.

Mr Dagg, who lived in Sunderland all his life, was a father to Marlon and Robert and a brother to Billy, Ann, Kevin, Scott and the late Ronnie.

Flowers and flags were laid close to the spot where Mr Dagg was injured in the days following his death.

There was no bail application made during yesterday’s magistrates’ court appearance and the pair remain in custody.
