Sunderland bowler David Bolt targets glory in Commonwealth Games fours

Meanwhile, namesake and Sunderland lawn bowler David Bolt is happy to keep a low profile.

However, he was left rueing his luck after a narrow defeat at the Commonwealth Games.

The two-time English champion is competing at his first major Games for England and was determined to bounce back from a disappointing performance in the men’s triples.

And despite a narrow defeat to Scotland in his final men’s fours group game, Bolt is looking ahead to tomorrow’s quarter-finals with confidence.

“We’re still feeling positive, we don’t think we played badly,” he said.

“I think we’d have beaten most teams playing like that and we look forward to the quarter-finals.

“If we’d have won we’d have been three games from winning and it’s the same if we lost.

“It’s a nice feeling going in knowing you’ve secured your place in the last eight and I don’t think it made us complacent.

“It’s sometimes hard to come off positive after getting beat but fractions cost us there. The only negative is the result, nothing else.

“We’re here to play all the way, we’ve got a lot of room to improve too.”

Bolt became the first Wearsider in more than century to win the outdoor national title six years ago, leaving his job as a postman to take up the sport full-time.

He has joined forces with fellow Games newcomer Louis Ridout in the fours event and Jamie Chestney and Sam Tolchard, both medallists in Glasgow four years ago.
