Sunderland biker killed in head-on smash

A DRIVER was arrested after a Wearside motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision.

The 60-year-old victim was involved in the crash on the B6301, near Bishop Auckland, County Durham, shortly before 1pm yesterday.

The biker, who was riding a blue BMW 600cc motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 50-year-old driver of a white Mitsubishi 4x4 was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and was being questioned by police last night.

A spokesman for Durham Police said: “The victim, who was confirmed dead at the scene, is believed to be a man from the Wearside area.”

The road, at Low West House, Hedley Hope, was closed for almost four hours while officers carried out investigations at the scene.
